new holiday items are in the shop!

Oh my word, I have been so excited to share this news with you! Three weeks ago I had plans of releasing a new line of items. Holiday-geared items. I was gearing up for the Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday shopper’s extravaganza. But lo and behold… my sewing machine broke! And not just “oh it needs to be tuned” broken… it legitimately broke. This may have had something to do with my cat, the lovely Lila, tipping my sewing table upside down. Jury’s still out on that one. This machine was 40 years old though and I grew up on these iron beasts. Which is exactly why I’ve always protested getting a new sewing machine.

Well, in the last week I’ve learned a few things. For one, you can practically carry a new sewing machine with your pinkie… and that these new machines automatically thread the needle for you… and that they have speed settings so you don’t turbo-rocket-launch across your fabric… and maybe I learned it was time to cut my loses and retire the iron beast. SO maybe I now have a shiny new little workhorse. And maybe I LOVE it! It was with this shiny new sewing machine that I was able to put the finishing touches on my new holiday items for the Running Wild Designs shop! (eeek!)

And if you look closely, you’ll notice something else I’ve been excited to show you… tags!

I wanted something that modeled the sustainable mission of my shop so when I came across this natural, unbleached canvas, I was in love. I print and sew these tags right in my office and pop them into the purses and scarves as they’re being pieced together. It’s a 100% handmade process.

The two plaid scarves are special edition holiday items and since I want everyone to be cozy and festive for the holidays, I will fill any orders placed between now and December 20, 2013 – even if I’m out of stock! So if I’m sold out, shoot me a message and I’ll process your order to have your personally handmade cowl in the mail within two business days! Check out the Running Wild Designs shop for all the details!

  1. Yay! How exciting, though I’d like to know where it was that you “grew up on those iron beasts!” The sewing machine you were using was much older than anything Mom or Grandma had… just how old do you think they are!? ;)

What sewing machine did you end up picking? I think I have a Brother and I love it – though it’s nothing as fancy as yours!

    • Haa! Their sewing machines are older than mine though we’re within the same decade. That’s the reason I bought the old one in the first place. They are all iron beasts though. Crazy heavy and cumbersome… iron beasts.

What do you think?
